What Is CBD?

What Is CBD?

What does CBD Stand for?

CBD stands for “cannabidiol”. Which is the second-most abundant cannabinoid molecule naturally occurring in the cannabis or hemp plant.  The most abundant molecule in the cannabis or hemp plant is of course THC: the psychoactive chemical that makes users feel “high” which CBD does not do.
What exactly is CBD and how does it work?
Let’s talk about the human body as it will help you understand how CBD comes into play when using it.  Your body already has an endocannabinoid system which is important in helping us regulate and perform various tasks throughout our day.  CBD binds to the receptors within this system, because our bodies were set up to interreact with cannabinoids, to begin with. We actually produce cannabinoids all on our own without using CBD at all!
CBD is non-psychoactive (it does not get you “high”) and when introduced to your body, and comes near the receptors in our endocannabinoid system, CBD will bind to the receptors that are present, creating a chemical reaction that science is only just beginning to understand.
What is the difference between THC and CBD
When researching CBD, or deciding whether to use it or not, it is important to understand the difference between CBD and THC.
THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol is the main molecule in the cannabis or hemp plant and that’s the molecule that most people know about.  THC is the molecule that makes users feel “high” or intoxicated.
CBD does not have this effect, but that does not mean it is not working. We know that there is a chemical reaction happening, but because of the complexity of the human body and specifically the endocannabinoid system, it’s is hard to know exactly what occurs when CBD binds to those all-important receptors.
CBD comes from two different cannabis plants: The hemp plant (with less than 0.3 percent THC present) or the marijuana plant (where there is much more psychoactive THC). Most CBD products tend to use CBD that is derived from the hemp plant which is what makes it legal to sell, own and use!
