The subject of CBD in sports has garnered a lot of attention. Is it a performance enhancement drug? Or, is it the same as icing your muscles after an intense workout? We decided to dig deep in order for you to better understand if CBD is good for sports or not.
Using CBD For Sports
As of 2018 the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has declassified CBD as a prohibited product. Also, the U.S Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has clarified that all synthetic and naturally occurring cannabinoids are prohibited except for CBD.
Why CBD Is Not Prohibited In Sports
According to the USADA, cannabinoids are prohibited for 1 of 3 reasons which include:
- Puts the athletes health in danger.
- It can potentially enhance the athletes performance.
- Violates the spirit of the sport.
The exception for the prohibited natural occurring cannabinoid is CBD. Although Delta 8 THC is a natural occurring cannabinoid, the rules prohibit all of the other 120 cannabinoids. Also, since CBD poses no threat to an athlete's health, enhances performance; CBD is perfect for those who play sports.
If you’ve ever played sports you know how sore you can be the next day. Now, imagine if playing sports was your full time job!? Naturally you’ll try to find something that can help reduce your recovery time. Although there are no studies to show that CBD helps cut down recovery time, a lot of athletes take CBD to wind down.
What CBD does is it lightly binds the CB1 and CB2 receptors in our bodies. These are responsible for regulating functions like pain, hunger, etc. So, athletes tend to use CBD when they are sore in hopes to feel less sore. Everyone reacts to CBD differently, so if a person takes CBD for their sore muscles, it might affect someone else differently.
Some CBD products can promote relaxation while others can promote alertness. For example - CBD products like our Sweet Dreams CBD Pen come with added Terpenes and Melatonin. Also, it’s important to note that we use Terpenes that add flavor and compliment the type of product. In the example of Sweet Dreams, we add Melatonin which is not a Hemp Terpene, but it does promote better sleep.
Another product that is similar to Sweet Dreams is our Relax CBD Pen. Although we don’t add any Melatonin to this product, it does have Apple Kush Terpenes. These Terpenes are Myrcene dominant which can also be found naturally in lemongrass. What this means is that the Apple Kush Terpenes are used to enhance the experience of this product. Which ideally is for people or athletes who want to relax.
Benefits of CBD
There are many benefits to taking CBD which include the fact that it’s non-psycho active, this means it can’t get you high. Also, there is a lesser possibility of testing positive for THC when using CBD Isolate.
You Can’t Get High With CBD
There are a majority of people who tend to experience anxiety or discomfort when they get high. However, they still want to experience the benefits from the plant. Although CBD comes from the Hemp plant, you can still get the same benefits like you would from Marijuana; the exception is that Hemp has very low amounts of THC and high amounts of CBD.
However, you have to understand that CBD can still have low traces of THC. Although only 0.03% of THC it’s still THC. It may not be enough to get you high but it can be enough to pop up on a drug test. If you’re worried about testing positive for THC then we recommend going with a CBD Isolate instead of Full Spectrum CBD.

The Holistic Approach
What is great about CBD is that it can be used as a natural, holistic approach to your road to recovery after playing sports. Many athletes are turning to CBD because it’s all natural, and everyone finds different benefits in CBD. Also, it can be used as a great alternative to Marijuana because it has similar properties.
Another great reason why athletes take CBD is if they are stressed out. Although CBD might not alleviate stress, it can promote activities to help you decompress such as getting some sleep, or drinking a cup of relaxing tea. CBD is non-habit forming so you don’t have to worry about creating a dependency.
While CBD is good for sports, both professional and armature athletes are benefiting from it. Also, it’s no longer prohibited for professional athletes to use it, which helps promote recovery, and relaxation. There are many benefits to CBD, but the best way to find it’s benefits is by trying it yourself.
