Dogs, Fireworks, and CBD

Dogs, Fireworks, and CBD

More pets go missing during the 4th of July weekend than any other time of the year. This is due to the loud noises, and dogs being accidently let out by party guests. Therefore, we’ve come up with some helpful tips on how to prepare your dog for the 4th of July weekend.

Why Dogs Go Missing

Why Dogs Go Missing

Dogs tend to go missing during the summer because we tend to entertain more guests. It’s too hot to be indoors so we gather outside a lot more to bbq, hang out by the pool, and pop loud fireworks.

Summertime

One of the reasons why dogs tend to go missing during the summer time is because of all the gatherings taking place. When you’re entertaining guests there tends to be a lot of foot traffic going in and out of your home. This often results in the dog being accidentally let out by someone leaving a door open. We’re often too distracted with our guests to realize that Fido is down the street chasing squirrels.

Fireworks

This goes without saying but most dogs get scared/alarmed due to the loud, sudden noises from fireworks. Also, dogs have excellent hearing so loud bangs tend to trigger anxiety. It’s important to understand that dogs get sent into a fight-or-flight mentality when startled. So, naturally a startled dog will get scared and will try to run away from the perceived danger.

One recommendation that we have is giving your dog some CBD Pet Spray before the fireworks go off. There are many benefits in giving your dog CBD, especially during the 4th of July.

What CBD Promotes in Dogs

Just like humans, dogs have what’s called an Endocannabinoid System (ECS); this is what helps regulate certain functions in their body such as pain, hunger, and how they respond to stress. Also, when a dog takes CBD it lightly binds the CB1 receptors just like in humans.

What this means is that CBD can provide the same effect in dogs that it does in humans. It helps promote relaxation without the high from Marijuana. Some of our customers give CBD to their dogs when they are experiencing general discomfort, and even spray it onto hot spots. Results may vary, as we’ve seen that in some younger dogs it can tend to trigger the Zoomies.

How Much CBD Should I Give My Dog?

This all depends on how your dog reacts to CBD and their body weight. We haven’t noticed a specific recommended amount for different breeds; however, the size of the dog is what determines how much CBD you should give it. What we do recommend is talking to your vet first especially if your dog is taking medication or has an underlying health condition.

The general guideline is: 1 mg of CBD for every 10lbs. So, if you’re using our CBD Pet Spray - that would be roughly about 1-2 sprays per 10 lbs. Our recommendation is to start off with a small dose and see how your dog reacts. If you feel that they’re enjoying it with no visual signs of discomfort, great! Also, we use very simple, natural ingredients such as MCT Coconut Oil, Hemp Seed Oil, Full Spectrum Cannabidiol (CBD).

Dogs, Fireworks, and CBD - Conclusion

The 4th of July should be a time of celebration for everyone, and your dogs should be comfortable too. However, that’s not the case for most dog-o’s. So, we recommend giving your dog some CBD Pet Spray and see how they like it. Also, while you’re at it, pick up some CBD for yourself as well. We hope you and your family have a safe, and fun 4th of July weekend!
